Breakout Sessions
Approximately 200 EAST facilitators and students will have the opportunity to attend hands-on and presentation-style training breakout sessions during the Hawaii STEM Conference.
Breakout Sessions Description
GIS/GPS:
This session will provide students with a basic hands-on overview of geospatial technologies – GIS, GPS, and Remote Sensing. Learn how to capture data with a GPS unit & upload it into a GIS map. In addition, career paths in GIS will be highlighted. Hawaii GIS data will be provided to session participants.
Astronomy:
This session will provide students with an overview of Astronomy. Students will be exposed to Industry professionals working in the Aerospace Industry. Learn about the exciting work taking place right here in Hawaii with stars, comets, celestial objects, the Faulkes Telescope, and much more. In addition, career pathways in Astronomy will be highlighted.
Social Networking:
This session will cover the phenomenon of social networking. Students will learn about the power of social networking, importance of content, and the long term impact of social networking as it relates to college and careers.
High Tech in Hawaii:
This session will cover High Tech in Hawaii. Learn about the many opportunities available right here in Hawaii. Local High Tech companies will provide presentations about their cutting edge work, career paths, and tips for success.
CAD:
This session will be a hands-on 3D CAD (Solidworks) session. Students who are interested in the cutting edge technology are encouraged to participate. 3D Innovations President and CEO, Collin Kobayashi will be on-site to provide the session.
Gaming/Animation:
This session will provide an exciting overview of the Gaming/Animation Industry. Students will be introduced to gaming and animation activities taking place in Hawaii. Degrees offered at Kapiolani Community College, and the University of Hawaii at Manoa will be discussed. Industry professionals will be available for questions.
Engineering:
This session will provide an overview of engineering as a career path. Students will learn about the many types of engineering, the real world application, and why engineering is such a wonderful career that truly impacts the world. Engineering professionals will be present to provide insight into the dynamic career.
Green Technologies in Hawaii:
Green energy and sustainability is expanding and growing in Hawaii. Going “Green” is becoming a leading and dynamic profession. Join us in learning about the different types of renewable Energy including but not limited to wind, solar, bio-mass, and LEED certification. Come and learn about this exciting and emerging field.
