Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day
Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day (IGED) is held in conjunction with National Engineering Week in February to increase interest in engineering among girls and raise awareness of the contributions engineers make to the community.

This past year, thirty 7th and 8th grade girls from Iao, Kalama, Lahaina, Lokelani and Maui Waena intermediate schools were invited to job-shadow local engineers from private sector companies and County of Maui engineering departments.

The day-long event was a huge success. It included an educational video showcasing the various types of engineering careers as well as a fun, hands-on engineering activity to build a spaghetti bridge.

IGED has been organized and hosted fo the past seven years by the WIT Project in collaboration with the Hawaii Society of Engineers-Maui Chapter and the County of Maui.

Our Programs

AGRICULTURE EDUCATION
Agriculture in Maui County today involves much more than planting and harvesting. The Women in Technology project, in partnership with the Maui County Farm Bureau, offers a series of highly- touted workshops to educate teachers, as well as students, on the many ways science and technology is integrated throughout our "new" agriculture.

EXCITE CAMP
The primary goal of Excite Camp is to excite, educate as well as expose middle school students to science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) careers.

GEOTECH
GeoTech is a statewide initiative to integrate into K12 education the use of Geospatial Technology: Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), and Remote Sensing.

INTRODUCE A GIRL TO ENGINEERING DAY

KAMA'AINA COME HOME
Kama‘aina Come Home™ is a job placement program and is trademarked by and used with permission from the Hawaii Island Economic Development Board. This initiative is a collaboration between Maui Economic Development Board and Ka`amaina Careers (a Hawaii job referral company based on the West Coast).

KE ALAHELE PROGRAM
In 2006, the Maui Economic Development Board established the Ke Alahele Education Fund in Maui County to strengthen the education to workforce pipeline in the STEM fields.

MENTORNET
MentorNet is the award-winning national e-mentoring network that addresses the retention and success of those in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

PROJECT EAST
Originating in Arkansas in 1995, Project EAST or the Environmental And Spatial Technology is a project-based, service-learning program that provides students with the most current, high-end technologies available in the most progressive fields in the world.

ROBOTICS HAWAII
Women in Technology sponsors the RoboticsHawaii project to support many scholastic robotics programs throughout the state. The goal is to motivate students toward STEM careers by capturing and sustaining their interest in robotics at an early age.

TECH CAREERS DAY
The two-day sessions are designed to introduce and motivate students toward careers in STEM.

TECH JOB FAIR
The High Tech Maui Holiday Job Fair is held annually in December, at the Maui Research and Tech Park in Kihei.
